Hello sweethearts! I'm so sorry for the lack of updates, but a lot has happened the past month.. Some private issues. You guys don't have to worry about it though. There's some good news I have by the way. I started a new job, yayy! And I like it so far, so I'm very happy! It's not in fashion or interior.. No, I'm working as a personal support worker. Something totally different than my previous jobs and I have never worked in this field before, but I think it's a good experience! Sometimes you just have to try new things.. Right?! It can be good and instructive for sure. And for me it's a new challenge as well!

CARROT CAKE RECIPE

I wanted to post the carrot cake recipe last Monday (as I told you in the previous post), but I was quiet busy Monday. And yesterday as well. Sorry for that! But anyway, I made two carrot cakes on Monday. One for my former colleagues at the fashion store and one for my family (see photo below). They're delicious! You definately should try it!

What you need:
1 cup oil
3 eggs
1½ cups sugar
2 cups flour
1½ teaspoons baking soda
1½ teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon vanilla
3 cups grated carrots

How you make it:

Combine sugar and oil in a mixing bowl and beat in eggs, one at a time. Add vanilla and mix. Add in all the other dry ingredients and mix again. Stir in the grated carrots. Pour into greased pan and bake it for 60 minutes in a preheated 350 F oven.

Let the cake cool and remove it from pan.

I went skiing today! It was great! Had so much fun! I started skiing when I was 6 years old, but it was almost 2 years ago that I went skiing for the last time.. So I was really excited to go again! Next time I want to try snowboarding though. I wouldn't give up the skiing, but I just want to see how that is.

Yesterday was my last working day at the fashion store. I bought some stuff with my discount for the last time. I got a black, shiny bag and some simple, silver rings. I will show you some pictures of it soon! I also tried on a dress (that dress caught my eye for a long time already) and after thinking whether I should buy it or not I just decided to buy it! So tomorrow I'm going to pick up the dress and I will leave my lovely (former) colleagues with a selfmade carrotcake.. Oh god, I made a carrotcake last Wednesday and it was just so good! I will place the recipe of it with a photo (after I made it) tomorrow. You definately should try it! It tastes like a Dutch cake (kruidkoek/ontbijtkoek - that's why I like it so much haha, cause they don't sell that specific cake here). It feels weird though that I had my last working day at the store yesterday.. I really had a good time there! But life goes on.. And I will find another job!

So, I already told you in my previous posts I got the scarf, the black purse and the red t-shirt new in. But that's not all I got new.. Tuesday, when I was driving around town with a friend, I visited some thrift stores. Value Village is my favourite in Brandon. It's a huge thrift store, very clean and they bring in new stuff quite often. They sell clothing, accessories, household items, interior accessories, electronics, etc. Lots of different stuff. I found an amazing dark burgundy coloured blazer between lots of other blazers and I am really happy with it. It's such a sharp looking blazer and the quality of it is just great. I love it! You want to know what the price of this beauty was? Only 7 bucks (around 5 euros)! Isn't it awesome?

Sorry for my belated diary post, but here it is. How are you guys doing? I was so busy last week that I didn't got the time to post anything! I worked the whole week and have hardly been home. I have some news though.. I quit my job in the fashion store where I worked the last couple of months. I did love working there, but I didn't like the hours anymore (I only worked the afternoons/evenings and the weekends). So I didn't see my family that much, cause when they were off from work, I was working. So this is my last week working at the fashion store and after that I'm done. I'm gonna search for something else with better hours.

By the way, I bought the purse and the scarf I showed you in my previous post. I said that they were high on my wishlist, right? So I had to buy them haha! Oh and I bought an amazing item from a thrift store today.. I will post a photo on Thursday! Right now I'm off to bed.. Good night!

So.. My second diary post. I haven't experienced anything special last week, so I just placed some photos of favourite items we got new in the store this month. I bought the red t-shirt yesterday (because I couldn't resist not buying it) and the other items are high on my wishlist..

The last post was about that new black turtleneck I got, right? I think it would look great tucked in a high waisted pair of white pants as I said in that post. It actually reminded me of my white skinnies I have! So I thought it would be nice to wear my white skinnies again (long time ago that I wore them) with something black above. You can see the result below. I really love to wear black and white! So stylish!

I haven't told you much about this week though. I was quite busy! I didn't got the job I told you earlier about, but it's not a big deal because it wasn't really my thing (administration job for one month, only temporary). So I still have my one job at a fashion store and I really love it there! But it's parttime, so that's why I was searching for something to do next to it. But it's okay. I will find something. I am also busy with something else where I'm pretty excited about, but I will tell you that later! Can't tell it yet, sorry dears! Next to that I'm also speed skating a lot, which is going great! I will start with competitions the end of this season or I will start with that the next season. I'm really excited, can't wait!
This afternoon and evening I have to work, but I will have tomorrow off (my first Sunday off in 3 months!). It's gonna be a nice, relaxing Sunday I guess. Oh by the way, at the store we got some really nice new stuff in this week. I will show you photos of it in my second diary post tomorrow, so stay tuned! Have a nice day/night honeys!

Do you guys remember the burgundy coloured turtleneck I bought last week? Well.. I bought it in black as well now. Just because I love it! I think it would look great tucked in a high waisted pair of white pants. Unfortunately I don't have a high waisted pair of white pants (want them for a long time now though), but when I find a good pair for sure I will buy them. Mostly when I see an item, I get a picture in my head of how it looks together with other items. So my mind shows me a total look with just one item. When I don't get a picture in my head, the item is just not my style, it's more difficult to mix or I know I won't wear that item. Right now I'm going to bed, it's way too late already, so have a good night everyone!

This is what I wore yesterday (see the photos below). It's a perfect work outfit for me. Classy and stylish; how my work outfit should be. I love my new turtleneck shirt! It's very comfy and stylish at the same time! Right now I almost wear the same outfit (only with another pair of black pants and my new pointy black shoes). I'm gonna fix my hair now and then I'm off to work until 9:30 PM. Have a good night you guys!

My job interview went good last Wednesday. It took me 2,5 hours to get there, but it all went well. It's a temporary job though, so if they hire me it would be my second job until the end of February. It would just be to gain another extra experience. I will hear more of it next week. The weather is a little better by the way, less cold luckily! I had my speed skating training this evening and it went pretty good (the cold was not too too bad luckily).

I bought some new stuff in sale last week and yesterday (see the photos below). I wanted those black pointy heels for a while and finally got them. I also bought lots of new items in the last three months of 2011 (in the Netherlands before we moved to Canada and also here in Canada), but you will see those items in my next outfit posts. It's just too much to photograph haha, and I can't even remember all of the items that are new! But from now on I will keep you updated again about new additions to my wardrobe!

The weather is terrible right now; it's snowing, it's windy and it's really cold. I have a job interview in two hours and I have to go by bus, cause I am not aloud to drive on my own yet and my parents have the truck, which sucks. First I have to walk 10 minutes to get by the bus, so I will wear my ski pants, ski jacket and snow boots. It's definitely not charming and high fashionable, but it's warm! This evening I have to work, so I might take pictures from the outfit I will wear.

Today it was so damn cold outside when I made the pictures for this post, but I really wanted to shoot them in daylight! It was around -24 degrees, but it felt like -37 degrees. Pretty low eh?! I was outside for about 5 minutes and my hands became purple and frozen, so I went inside for a couple of minutes to warm up and tried to make pictures outside for another 5 minutes.. But after those minutes I was done!! So freaking cold!! Even my speed skating training was canceled, too bad, but of course I do understand why haha. I had this day off from work, so I was wearing a more casual and comfy outfit (less dressy). Normally I wear snow boots outside (only outside) with this weather of course, which is not really charming but at least warm.

WINTER TWILIGHT

Last Tuesday I was wearing the outfit in the pictures below (sorry for not posting it earlier). It wasn't cold that day.. Actually the whole Winter has been nice so far here in Manitoba; not really cold, not lots of snow, but just nice (good for us Dutchies to get used to it slowly). The weather is changing now though. I check the weather forecasts on my iPhone every week and it will be colder from now on.. Like next Tuesday night it's gonna be -31 degrees!! And the worst that I got in the Netherlands was probably -12 degrees haha.. So that's nothing compared to the cold out here!!

NEW YEAR, NEW START

Last night, our first New Year's Eve in Canada, was nice. It was different than the New Year's Evenings we celebrated in the Netherlands every year, but it was fun. We celebrated it with a lot of Dutch people and some Canadian friends. We played some really nice games and laughed a lot! I missed my dear friends from the Netherlands though! On days such as Christmas and New Year's Eve you want to have all the people around you that are special. So Christmas was the same.. I missed the going out part with my friends. I really missed them around me and I still do! But hey, my family and I made the best of it with each other! At least I have them near me! ♥

Today was a nice relaxing day. Me and my parents went to the Brandon hills for a walk in the snow. It was my turn to drive and I loved it! I really like to drive! I had to wait so long for getting my drivers licence, because I didn't want to get it in the Netherlands (otherwise I had to do it all over again here in Canada). So I waited for 3 years and it took sooooo long. But now I can drive, finally!

It will be less busy for me after Christmas though, so then I am going to refresh my blog page and from January on I will post waaaay more!! That's a promise! Hello my dear readers! Hereby finally a post from Canada! The last month has been going by so fast! In the beginning of October I was busy preparing everything for the big step. On the 16th of October we had our farewell party with all our dear friends and family, which was great but very emotional. On the 18th of October we flew to Toronto where we stayed a couple of days before flying to Winnipeg. After the nice days in Toronto (and around) we landed in Winnipeg on the 22nd of October. We had to drive two hours to get to our final destination Brandon.

From that date the time went by like crazy! We had to arrange a lot again. I got a job quickly (two jobs actually, at two different stores in the mall), I went to a Dutch hairdresser in Rapid City, we discovered Brandon, I started speed skating, I made an appointment to do the written test for my drivers licence, I opened a bank account, etc. We discovered a lot last month, which is really great, because the beginning was difficult (for me). Since I am a bit used to everything, it is going better, but the first weeks were very emotional!

We already have gotten snow a couple of times (see pictures below). The weather here is very different than the weather in the Netherlands. The air is dry (very dry), it can be cold (very cold) but often with a blue sky and warm sun, there is more snow (way more snow) and the summers are warm here (hot actually). So we have real winters and real summers now. Isn't that just great?!
